At San Antonio Dog Training Co., we believe that training should be a positive experience for both you and your dog. We strongly believe that positive reinforcement is a very important part of training. Positive reinforcement is used to reward a dog's behavior in order to increase the likelihood of the behavior being repeated in the future. An example is giving the dog a cookie after he/she sits in order to strengthen the future likelihood that the dog will sit again in similar circumstances. This provides the foundation for dog training. Dog’s should be rewarded for behavior you want them to do. At S.A. Dog Training Co. we use a variety of positive reinforcement methods, including: giving treats, toys, play and, the most important reinforcement of all, physical and verbal praise.
Another important part of our training philosophy is the difference between correct and incorrect behaviors. There are other training methods that primarily ignore less desirable behaviors however we believe that the idea of ignoring inappropriate behavior is often ineffective, unreliable, not practical in the real world and sometimes dangerous. The idea of ignoring lunging on leash, jumping on others, play biting or nuisance barking is not a belief we adhere to. Many of these behaviors are self-reinforcing for a dog, as they often receive attention after performing these behaviors. In nature, dogs correct one another when they interact. Anyone who has seen a mother dog teach her puppies not to bite too hard or jump on her, understands this. Correcting or interrupting a dog who is doing something inappropriate is part of the same natural learning process we are all subjected to in everyday life.
We believe strongly that the best method of training is to use a balanced approach. Learning occurs rapidly when we discover what is rewarded and what is undesirable, the same holds true for dogs. We can teach you how to teach your dog those life lessons in a fair and effective manner. Learning rules, boundaries and manners will actually open the dog’s world up to new places and experiences because he/she will understand the difference between good and bad behaviors and will no longer be a burden to take out in public. This will allow your dog to become a bigger part of the family and truly allow your dog to become Man's Best Friend.
Private lesson programs are designed for owners who have the necessary time and patience to work closely with their dogs. Private lessons are also ideal for dogs whose personality types work better when they remain in their home environment.
In each private lesson at our training facility, we will teach you how to train your dog using obedience commands and how to handle unwanted behaviors. Your scheduled lessons will take place once a week or every other week (depending on what needs to be accomplished). In order for private lessons to be successful, you and your dog will be required to practice at home between lessons. A commitment of at least two to three 20 minute “homework sessions” per day is necessary for this type of training approach to be effective. During your evaluation, Jonathan King will be able to answer your questions and suggest if this approach is best for you and your dog. The price of private lesson package will depend on your specific goals for your dog, call 210-520-0780 for your FREE initial evaluation to learn more.
Residency training programs are for owners who wish to put their dog’s training into the hands of a professional. These programs prove especially effective for training hyperactive dogs, dogs with complicated behavior problems, or dogs with aggressive tendencies.
When you choose a residency program, you know that the training of your dog will be accomplished quickly without disrupting your schedule. The length of training time is based upon your dog’s personality, past and present behavior, and your goals for your dog. Once your dog has been evaluated by Jonathan King, he can recommend a training program that is ideal for you and your dog and give you a better estimate of how long it will take to complete the training.
Once your dog has completed a residency program at S.A. Dog Training Co. dog owners will then be provided with a series of follow-up lessons at no extra charge, which will provide instruction on how to handle and communicate with their trained dog. In order for all or our residency programs to be successful, it is imperative for owners to commit to incorporating what their dog has learned into everyday life. During you pre-enrollment evaluation, Jonathan will be able to answer your questions and suggest if this approach is best for you and your dog.

Three week Off Leash Residency Program $1,025.0
Your dog will learn all of the commands that are taught in the 2 week program and receive a total of 6 follow-up lessions. In addition, your dog will be taught to perform all commands off leash on a remote collar. Remote collar acts as an invisible leash, giving users the ability to have their dog reliably off leash in a very short amount of time. If your dog runs away on a constant basis he/she knows we can't stop them if we are not physically holding their leash. The most reliable, quickest and best way to teach them is with a remote collar. Under our guidance, we guarantee that users will be satisfied with the results and that their dogs will be happy. Running away is such a frustrating and dangerous behavior that we at San Antonio Dog Training Co. feel it's very important to fix the behavior in a safe, fast manner. If your dog runs off, no amount of food, yelling or incorrect discipline is going to work. The remote collar offers you a way to communicate to your dog that this behavior is not desired. Very few people have dogs so well trained they can get their dogs to come 99% of the time. Here at S.A. Dog Training Co. we can help you be one of the few. The cost of the remote collar is not extra and is included in the price of the training package.
